Poultry treatment is disgusting
MY letter is in response to the television programme a few weeks ago which showed us all what we knew already which was the cruel and disgusting way that 'chicken farms' operate and this filthy business of providing cheap chicken.
If these birds were not in plastic bags or containers in supermarkets, how many of us would choose to wade through all of this filth they live in, wearing a face mask to evade the smell and then choose one of those wretched birds whose legs cannot support their body and take it home and eat it.
We've all known for so long about this uncaring cruelty and yet I hear no campaigns from church leaders to stop it, nor have I been deafened by the uproar from MPs and Government.
During my years in Adu-Dhabi, I witnessed much the same misery for these animals only for them to end up in a shop window space waiting to be chosen, beheaded and put into a contraption to remove their feathers. We are no better in this country.
This television programme, I fear, will make little or no difference to our conscience and yet we would not allow behaviour such as this from neighbours against their pets, and yet we seem to turn a blind eye to these 'roast dinners' lifestyles, only to realise the only release from their squalor and filth is death.
It's such a sad release if we remember they never were offered a life anyway.
I do intend to pursue this matter further and try to get something done to stop this outrageous cruelty. We've turned ourselves into a third world country behaving in such a way and to conclude may I say we've become figures of Rhett Butler, because frankly we just don't give a damn.
