A presentation was made to retiring clerk Shelia Caskey who has stepped down from the role after a quarter-of-a-century.

The August parish council meeting was Mrs Caskey’s last as clerk, but she was present on Monday as chairman Coun Geoffrey Stewart thanked her for all her efforts and presented her with a bouquet of flowers.

Coun Stewart paid tribute to her as a ‘dedicated, knowledgable and supportive asset to this village community’.

“On many occasions, she has quietly and generously contributed far beyond what her job required,” he added.

The new clerk for North Sunderland Parish Council is Jill Hall.
