Members of Christon Bank Methodist Church are inviting people to join a special birthday party.

The church is marking its 125th anniversary with a heritage exhibition and celebration service during the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Refreshments will also be available at the church from 2pm on each day of the exhibition from Saturday, August 27, to Monday, August 29.

The service will be held at 6pm on the Sunday.

Descendants of one of the church’s founders, preacher James Young (pictured above), will attend the service.

They include his great-grandson Robert Young, a current member of the church, who is one of the event’s organisers.

James Young and stationmaster Theophilus Moor approached Sir Edward Grey for the land for the church, which was granted in 1891.
