Charity aims for jobs boost

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is extending its provision in Alnwick by running a Job Club alongside its existing debt counselling and money-management courses.

The new venture will see the charity work closely with Alnwick’s Jobcentre Plus to try to help people secure employment.

Neill Parker will head up the Alnwick Job Club. He said: “The programme is very individual and not only helps delegates to gain the key skills they need to get back into work, but does it in a very compassionate and focused way.

“We also believe it’s important that those attending feel comfortable and looked after and as such we’ll be offering bacon butties as well as tea and coffee at the start of each session.”

The CAP Job Club in Alnwick is one of more than 100 across the UK and Neill says that they have proved successful in other areas.

The Alnwick Job Club will run on Fridays for nine weeks, starting with an introduction on Friday, April 24, from 9.30am to noon. All of the sessions will take place at Alnwick Baptist Church.

Anyone who is interested should contact Neill on 07786 861309 to reserve a place.

He will be running the programme alongside Bill McDonald, who is a previous centre manager for CAP.
