The last two days of Berwick Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith’s annual surgery tour take place on Thursday and Friday this week – with a slight twist.

Thursday’s tour between Stobswood and Hauxley, will take place as usual. But the probable recall of Parliament on Friday means the MP will be represented by a member of staff for the last leg of the tour, which covers villages and hamlets between Hetton Steads and Doddington.

Sir Alan said: “It’s clearly very important that Parliament is involved in any decision to take military action as part of the Coalition which is carrying out attacks against ISIL in Iraq.

“But at the same time I do not want to let down constituents who may have been planning to come and see me with problems and who need my help. On Friday’s tour, constituents can come and talk to my senior assistant, Dr Clare Mills, who will give them the same level of confidentiality and support that they would get from me.

“I will miss the final day of my final surgery tour as Member of Parliament before I retire next May, but I hope to visit some of these places later in the year. In the meantime, constituents can always contact me by email, phone or in writing, as well as by attending any of my regular surgeries in Alnwick, Berwick and the other major villages.”

Sir Alan can be contacted by email on or by calling the Constituency Office on 01665 602901. You can write to him at 54 Bondgate Within, Alnwick NE66 1JD. Surgery details are posted on Sir Alan’s website.
