The Rev Paul Scott, vicar of St Michael’s Church, Alnwick, has been made an Honorary Canon of St Nicholas’ Cathedral in Newcastle, in a ceremony presided over by the Bishop of Newcastle, the Rt Rev Christine Hardman.

Paul has been vicar of Alnwick since 2012 and last year was made the local Area Dean.

Born in Cresswell, he is thought to be the first Northumbrian vicar of Alnwick for more than 200 years.

He said: “I have many happy associations with the cathedral, not least as the place where I was ordained deacon and priest and where Jane and I were married. I look forward to doing what I can to support the witness and ministry of the cathedral and to promote its life, and the many exciting activities that happen there.”
