PLANS to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Flodden are in line to receive almost £900,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
At this stage, the HLF is providing initial support to the Flodden 1513 Ecomuseum Ltd by way of an £81,700 development grant to enable plans to be worked up ready to apply for the full grant of £887,400 at a later date.
The focus of the Flodden 500 project is to inform, involve and support the community in commemorating the anniversary, as well as to co-ordinate, help to develop, and provide publicity for the smaller Flodden-related initiatives. It also includes a sum to improve learning, access and understanding of the heritage.
The grant will support the development of the activities within the core project between April and July, in order to submit the full application in July.
Lord Joicey, a director of the Flodden 1513 Ecomuseum Ltd, said: “This is an important milestone in our work to bring the 500th anniversary of Flodden to a wider national audience as well as to encourage community groups to mark the occasion with projects of a more local nature.”
The project aims to use the anniversary as a catalyst to leave a lasting legacy.
