Caravan park moves in right direction

THE expansion of a north Northumberland caravan park could lead to 100 new jobs.

Plans to extend Seafield Caravan Park, in Seahouses, to provide an additional 188 static caravans as well as the provision of a community sports facility have been submitted to Northumberland County Council by Strathearn Leisure Parks Ltd and agent Sandra Thompson of Signet Planning.

The application says that the scheme would provide 100 jobs, on top of the existing 26 full-time and 29 part-time positions at the site.

The scheme also includes plans for 188 car parking spaces and access.

According to information provided with the plans, the caravans would be set in small neighbourhoods of approximately 15 to 30 units and each neighbourhood would be separated by hard and soft landscaping, screen planting and natural stone boundary wall, in order to ensure a ‘high-quality appearance’.

The remainder of the 9.75 hectare site, about 2.25 hectares, would be used for a community sports facility. The applicants say that following discussions with interested parties it is felt that there is a demand for additional playing fields in Seahouses.

The original caravan park was opened on June 1, 1960, and following its successful growth, was extended in 2002 to increase the caravan accommodation offer on the site.
