Car hirer keeps quiet

A LUCKER man has been given six penalty points on his driving licence for not disclosing the identity of the driver of a car which committed a traffic violation on the High Level Bridge in Newcastle last June.

Simon Mallen, 27, of Hill Top, was also fined £525 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £15 after magistrates found the case proved in his absence.

Berwick magistrates heard reminders had been sent on numerous occasions to Mallen after police identified the car involved as having been hired by him on the date in question, but he failed to respond to any of the letters.
