Rothbury Family Butchers’ proprietor Morris Adamson scooped five awards at the Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year competition last week.

His pork, jalapeño, lime and ginger sausage, as well as The Cragside Cracker and the pork apple and Stilton sausage all won gold while the Simonside Sizzler and the traditional pork sausage scooped silver awards.

The competition was judged in London so the shop had to send the sausages via courier.

He said: “Two of the sausages entered hadn’t been entered in a competition before and they both took gold so that was the icing on the cake. Normally there’s two or three of us doing various jobs for a competition, whether it’s one chopping the herbs/vegetables etc and another cutting/mincing the pork. It’s usually a team effort but this time it was just me.

I’ve been ribbing the lads that I can still do it.”
