A new wedding venue in Northumberland will officially throw open its barn doors for the first time and a horse called Rodney will be the mane attraction.

Doxford Barn Weddings, just outside Alnwick, has invited Rodney to be the VIP guest.

He will officially ‘cut the ribbon’, which will be made of carrot specially for the occasion, on Saturday, July 18.

As revealed in the Gazette, Rodney, 23, will be trotting up the A1 next summer to be the guest of honour at the wedding of his ownerAlice Jennings, who comes from South Shields.

She said: “I fell in love with Doxford Barns as soon as I saw it and when I realised I could take my beloved horse to share my wedding experience it was the icing on the cake.

“I am over the moon that Rodney has been invited to open the venue and it also gives me and my fiancé the chance to see the finished barn. We can’t wait.”

Doxford Barns will also be hosting any celebratory occasions and can offer team-building experiences as well.

Richard Shell, general manager and owner said: “I am extremely proud and very excited to share my vision with everyone finally.

“It has taken a lot of hard work to get to this point, but I have been surrounded by a great team who have helped me achieve my goal and I am extremely grateful to them all for their dedication and commitment.’
