DFDS Seaways saw a record number of passenger crossings from Newcastle to Amsterdam over the summer.
More than 65,000 passengers sailed in August alone – a rise of almost 4,000 compared to last year.
DFDS is the only ferry operator to sail between Newcastle and Amsterdam and offers two daily sailings.
Max Foster, passenger director at DFDS Seaways, said: “Every ferry sailing on our Newcastle-to-Amsterdam route in August was fully booked, which is a fantastic achievement, especially given the continuing tough economic conditions.
“Striving to deliver excellent customer service is at the heart of everything we do and we are delighted that the hard work and dedication of our onboard and shore-based teams, coupled with our high quality ferries, seems to be striking a cord with our customers.
“As the summer draws to a close, we are continuing to see a trend towards passengers taking more mini-breaks rather than longer and more expensive holidays.”
DFDS Seaways cruise ferry service departs daily from the port in North Shields, Newcastle at 5pm and arrives at 9.30 the next morning into Amsterdam ferry port.
There are no luggage restrictions – a car can be packed up and driven straight onto the ferry.
While onboard the cruise ferry, passengers can have a choice of the three restaurants, including an all-you-can-eat freshly-prepared buffet at the 7 Seas Restaurant, or the Explorer’s Steakhouse. There are also several bars onboard, live entertainment and a cinema. Cabins are en-suite.
