A unique business that integrates an independent musical instrument retailer with a progressive cafe and musical performance venue has won an award.

The Music Gallery/Kazmiranda Cafe in Berwick, took home the Creative Industries Award at this year’s Northumberland Business Awards, after wowing the judges with its unique business model and passion and drive to succeed.

The venue hosts live music performances encompassing open mic, music jam sessions and the promotion of professional performers from across the world.

Brian Martin, owner of The Music Gallery, was unable to attend the ceremony to accept his award as he was committed to community work, but provided a video message on the night.

“Thank you for this award, it is very much appreciated,” he said. “We are working tirelessly in the community and that’s why we couldn’t be there on the night, as we had 15 people coming.

“I would like to thank my staff and my wife who runs the cafe where we put live music on and host our live events and tuition.

“It is very much a family team and we all work together, although I’m accepting the award I must thank my staff and my customers.”

Paula Rosa Photography, Horizon Aerial Photography Ltd and Headway Arts were also shortlisted for the award, which was sponsored by Macdonald Hotels.
