A mobile phone company is set to open a new store in Alnwick later this year, as part of its expansion plans.
Vodafone will be taking over the former Collectables premises, on Bondgate Within, towards to the end of 2014.
The new store will provide around six jobs, which are currently being advertised on various websites online.
Alnwick town and county councillor Gordon Castle said: “I am very pleased that an important site on the front street is going to a major retailer.
“I would much rather see a retailer active on the high street than anything else.
“While I have heard comments from people in the town about who should and shouldn’t come to Alnwick but that is a completely different issue.
“I welcome this news and it will be another addition to help maintain the viability of the high street, and the town, which is very important for us.”
The move to open up in Alnwick is part of Vodafone’s plans to open 150 new stores across the UK, creating 1,400 jobs in total.
In total it will provide a £100million boost to towns and cities.
It comes alongside Vodafone’s plans to invest £1billion in 2014 in the networks and services relied upon by its more than 19million UK customers.
It is not yet known exactly when the store will open.
