A food technologist consultant is setting up business to help support other small firms.
Jennifer O’Malley, from Alnwick, has a history of working with big companies such as Nestle, as a food technologist and in new product development, process development and food safety.
But with two young children she wanted to set up camp closer to home.
And after meeting Susan Green, of Proof in the Pudding, she found her first client and a new business started up.
She said: “I knew I wanted to start my own business at some point.
“When I met Susan she convinced me that there was no point in waiting!
“I set up my business specifically to work with the local food enterprises, who may not have the time, technical knowledge or resource available.
“I offer a friendly, professional service to help businesses with all things technical, including new product development, food safety management (including HACCP).
“I offer solutions to process/product problems and help with cost-reduction exercises.
“I believe in supporting local business and am passionate about food safety and food science.
“Setting up a business was the obvious thing to try.
“It has been a pleasure working with Susan on her food safety management programme.
“Susan has been my first customer. She has been kind enough to pass a few puddings my way. My family and I think they are just terrific.
“Susan has a real understanding of the importance of food safety to the consumer and to her business.
“A well-constructed food safety management programme reduces the risk of failure and costly mistakes and maximises product safety.”
