A north Northumberland businesswoman has received an industry award for her delicious desserts.
Susan Green, who runs Proof of the Pudding at Heckley High House, near Alnwick, was given the food award in the Country Homes and Interiors Magazine, My Country Business Awards.
And for Susan the recognition is a reward for all the hard work she puts into the company, which she runs from home.
She had to submit a lengthy application with lots of information about the business.
Susan said: “They had quite a lot of entries initially and then I was put through to the second round where I had to send them samples of what we do.
“I was extremely pleasantly surprised to win.
“The prize will be really good for me, we get some busines mentoring and get to go on a business bootcamp for three days of coaching.
“That will be very good and very useful for me.
“But apart from that it is always nice to win something.
“It’s a nice pat on the back as you don’t always know how you are doing with things.”
Proof of the Pudding relies a lot on the tourist trade during the summer months.
Susan has just started to make her famous Alnwick Rum Christmas pudding ready for the busy festive market.
She has also teamed up with another Alnwick businesswoman to develop a more substantial food safety and management system for Proof of the Pudding.
She has been working with Jennifer O’Malley, a consultant food technologist.
For more on Jennifer see the story, right.
Susan said: “I did have a full food safety management system in place that I had done myself with the benefit of courses that I went on.
“But I decided I needed to have a more professional system and having met Jennifer it was decided she would come and help me.”
Susan was Jennifer’s first client and she was really pleased with the result.
