A Seahouses salon has become an accredited hair and beauty training centre.
The Sanctuary Spa, on Main Street, have branched out from pampering their clients to help train young people who want to start their careers in beauty.
Owner Kelly Preston found that when she was looking for apprentices the only places that girls could get qualifications and training in the subject was at Ashington or Berwick – which can be difficult to access using public transport.
So she decided to do something about it.
And now Kelly and beauty therapist Rebecca Scott, from Alnwick, have become assessors.
Kelly said: “We applied to become a training centre offering courses approved and certified with the Beauty Guild.
“Our website for The Sanctuary Beauty and Hair academy is under construction and we are hoping to be up and running in September.
“I think it’s a great thing for the local area and will hopefully create new jobs in the area and give people who can not travel the opportunity to learn new skills as access in to employment.
“After months of hard work and planning, we have now completed our assessors qualifications and are now approved by City and Guilds and the Beauty Guild to offer a number of short courses and up to level three qualifications in both hair and beauty as the only hair and beauty training academy in north Northumberland.
“Courses start in September and referrals are coming in fast from the awarding bodies.”
The academy’s website will be up and running soon with details of dates for starting and information about the courses that will be running.
Kelly is also keen to point out that funding for those wanting to take on courses may be available from the Skills Enterprise Agency.
