NORTH East Livestock Sales sold 347 store cattle and calves including 10 cows and calves also 445 breeding sheep and store lambs.

A good show of mainly younger cattle sold well to recent high rates.

BORDER Livestock Exchange Ltd to week ending Friday 7th October 2011 sold 108 Prime Cattle including 42 Cast Cows; 3,571 Prime Lambs; 521 Cast Ewes; 240 Breeding Ewes; 1,780 Store Lambs and 204 Store and Breeding Cattle.

Continental Steers from Easington Grange, Belford sold to £1,490; Aberdeen Angus x Steers from Mervinslaw, Jedburgh sold to 352p per kilo and £1,476 per head.

Continental x Heifers from Cairndinnis, Haddington sold to 350p and £1,252 per head.

Limousin Young Bulls from Bowsden Moor, Berwick-upon-Tweed sold to 332p and £1,437 per head to Linden Foods, Newcastle.

Continental Cows from Duncrahill sold to 295p; Angus Cows from Berryhill, Duddo to 280p and £1,200.

Prime Lambs showed signs of improvement with Organic Lambs from Tullochallum, Keith selling to 410p per kilo and £86.10 per head.

Export Weights sold to 375p per kilo and £78.75 Over Howden, Oxton; 370p and £77.70 Redpath, Duns; Shipley, Alnwick; Langraw, Hawick and Sharplaw, Hownam.

Store cattle from the web-site met a flurry of enquiry with 18 month cattle exceeding the £1,000 mark and spring born over 200p per kilo.

Breeding Sheep continued to be easy to sell with Mule Gimmers sold to £145; Mule Ewe Lambs to £105; Blackfaced Gimmers to £135; 4 Crop Mule Ewes to £105; udders only to £80.

Beltex Store Lambs to £60; Lleyn to £58.50 and a consignment of 470 hill Cheviots at £54.

AT their weekly Primestock Sale John Swan Limited had forward and sold 1336 Lambs and 370 Ewes.

Lambs dearer, again in spec lambs showing the most significant rise, all classes in keen demand.
