A north Northumberland mum wants to help the babies of the area to grow up green with the launch of a new business venture.

Ali Allport, from Thropton, is the latest addition to the Grow Up Green nappy retailer in the North East.

She first became enthused by cloth nappies when her baby, Thomas, was born nine months ago.

She took one of Grow Up Green’s trial kits, which enabled her to try the range.

So taken was she by her experience, that she volunteered to become an agent for the company – hiring out trial kits to local mums and demonstrating at baby groups, covering from Cramlington to Berwick.

Ali said: “Cloth nappies are no longer the terry squares of old, they come in great easy-to-use designs (just as easy as disposables), are a huge boost to the environment and save an absolute fortune for the families using them, a minimum of £500 saving for a first child.

“I’m delighted to be on board with Grow Up Green as their trial kit was invaluable in choosing the right style for my baby. I hope to similarly inspire and guide other mums and mums-to-be through the exciting world of modern cloth nappies.”

Ali will be getting into the swing of things during Real Nappy Week, with events including: Alnwick Surestart, Baby Buddies, Tuesday, April 16, 1-2.30pm; Rothbury Baby Clinic, Rothbury Community Hospital, Wednesday, April 17, 1.30-3.30pm; Rothbury Mums Meet Up, Rothbury Community Hospital, Thursday, April 18, 9.30-11am.
