An award-winning family-run business, which started life as a nursing and care agency, is branching out to offer clients a range of services at home.

Great Britannia has gone from strength to strength since starting in 2012, when it originally provided residential and nursing homes with care on a 24-hour basis.

But now, this expanding company, which is based in Alnwick and run by owner Tracy Surtees, is widening the net to also help clients find a comprehensive range of in-house services, from chefs to nannies.

Tracy said: “We have been providing nurse and care staff, but now we have decided to include further services.

“Having provided care within Northumberland, we recognised that families could need our help on a more long-term basis, not just with childcare, but with housekeeping, cooking, entertaining, gardening, housekeeper companion/carers and so on. We also realise that the nature of our relationship with clients is cyclical, with clients returning to us again and again.

“Great Britannia started with one member of staff, but it soon became clear that expansion was necessary and we now have a team of 10 based in Alnwick.

“The team currently manages a diverse range of roles in Northumberland, including housekeepers and housekeeper nannies, cooks and chefs, companion housekeepers and so on.

“Our staff are selected carefully and trained to work with the utmost discretion and professionalism, thus we are able to offer a bespoke service to cater for every unique client requirement.

“Our housekeeping and domestic staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and we are very confident that if you put your trust in our agency, we shall deliver an impeccable, first-rate, friendly and loyal service, achieving your highest expectations.”

The Green Batt-based firm has certainly made a name for itself. Just last year, it was crowned Most Outstanding Nursing Agency in the UK.

Tracy said: “We are rather proud that we won this major business award in London.

“It was a very welcome and overwhelming experience, especially as we were nominated without our knowledge.”
