Work to expand the facilities at an acclaimed and award-winning caravan park on the north Northumberland coast is now under way.

And the improvements at the Ocean Club at Seafield Caravan Park in Seahouses will also see the welcome boost of a number of new jobs created.

Last month, planning permission was granted to build a ground-floor extension as well as the conversion of the first-floor storage area at the club.

Work has now started and is due to be completed by Easter next year.

The expansion includes a coffee-shop extension, a spa relaxation area with heated beds and a fully-equipped air-conditioned fitness studio.

The type of fitness classes that the club’s management would plan to run would include kettlebells, circuits, spinning, pilates, yoga and zumba. The fitness studio will also be available for private hire.

Lisa Matthews, from the Ocean Club, said: “We hope to see activities such as dance classes for adults and children, baby yoga, karate and taekwondo to name a few.

“There will be a number of new jobs created included coffee-shop assistants, leisure staff and fitness instructors.

Anyone interested in teaching classes or hiring the fitness studio privately should contact Carolyn Britton or Lisa Matthews at The Ocean Club on 01665 721600.

In May, Seafield Caravan Park won gold in the Holiday Park/Village of the Year category in the prestigious Visit England Awards for Excellence 2014 in Cheltenham, the second time the site has been named the top holiday park in the country.

It was a successful night for Seahouses as St Cuthbert’s House also took gold in the guest accommodation category.

This week, it was announced that Seafield had once again won gold at the North East England Tourism Awards.
