A young entrepreneur has told of her surprise at the growth of her textile business after turning her hobby into a living.

Susanne Hume, 27, from Etal, started the Northumbrian Tweed Company in January from home after her Facebook page showcasing her products gained 3,000 likes in the first week. “Business is doing absolutely brilliantly since I set up in January,” she said.

After the huge success of her handmade products she is now hoping to branch out to bigger and better things with Bamburgh Castle now planning to stock her products.

Susanne, who lives with her husband and two-year-old son, uses tweed sourced from the UK and hopes to design her own in the future.

She said: “I created a questionnaire on whether or not to design my own tweed and so I asked what colours people would like and whether I should actually do it and the response I received was very positive.”
