Businesses do battle to pick up top awards

Businesses in the county can apply now to be in with a chance of scooping a top award.

Nominations are now being taken for the fifth annual Northumberland Business Awards that recognise companies across a range of activities.

Last year saw William Hackett Chains Ltd pick up the overall Northumberland Business of the Year title.

The event is organised by Northeast Press – publishers of the Northumberland Gazette and sister papers the Morpeth Herald and News Post Leader – along with Tweeddale Press title the Berwick Advertiser.

It will see businesses from across the region battle it out in a total of 12 categories.

Categories include Best Business Start up, Keep it Local, Training Award, Entrepreneur, Business in the Community, Technology Award, Green Business, Export Award, Large Business, Small Business, and Apprenticeship Ambassador.

A new category – the Northumberland Tourism Award – has also been added to the mix this year.

Event organiser Lisa Aynsley said: “The event was a sell-out last year and we are anticipating it will be the same again this year.

“We are really excited about the new Northumberland Tourism Award category that we expect will attract a lot of entries, and we are looking forward to celebrating the great businesses and business men and women that Northumberland has to offer.”

The awards will be held at a black-tie dinner at Linden Hall Hotel in Longhorsley, near Morpeth on Thursday, November 15.

To enter, see next week’s Gazette for a nomination form. The closing date for entries is Sunday, October 21.
