As prices rise, wood offers an alternative
Northumberland businessman, Mark Woodcock, has launched The Woodshack.
A north Northumberland businessman has launched a company to provide people with a new product to help in the fight against rising fuel costs.
The Woodshack, run by Mark Woodcock, delivers sustainable kiln-dried logs in their very own store, which means there is no mess, no chopping and no stacking of logs for the end user.
With the recent announcement of yet another fuel price increase, finding a cheaper alternative to heating your home is at the top of everyone’s mind as we enter the colder months.
The Woodshack provides an easy, affordable and tidy solution.
Mark Woodcock, director of The Woodshack, said: “Delivering high-quality wood in its own convenient log store offers customers a brand new and effortless solution to collecting and storing firewood.”
In 2008, Mark Woodcock set up award-winning recycling company, Woodcock Recycling.
He identified a new business opportunity when a local joinery specialist asked him to dispose of their wood off-cuts.
“We had all this wood in our warehouse and I thought it was the perfect product to recycle into kindling.
“This gave me the idea of offering sustainable firewood products and so The Woodshack was born in 2012,” said Mark.
The Woodshack also sells netted logs, coal and firelighters and is looking to extend its product range in the near future.
Mark said: “We would like to be the next one-stop shop for keeping you warm in the winter.
“We are also hoping to build our own kiln using our own wood fuel to further reduce our carbon footprint.”
Kiln-dried hardwood is more economical, provides a better fuel efficiency and a greater heat output.
With the continuing rise of oil and gas prices, more and more people are turning to wood-burning stoves as a cheaper alternative to heating their homes.
