Border Livestock Exchange, week ending November 22

Border Livestock Exchange to week ending Friday, November 22, sold 92 prime cattle including 40 cows; 2,892 prime lambs; 411 cast ewes and 84 store and breeding cattle.

Cattle trade was firmer with numbers starting to tighten for both clean cattle and cast cows.

Top price went to Cresswell Farms, Belford, for a consignment of Hereford Cross organic steers which sold to 460p per kg and £1,656 per head. Aberdeen Angus Cross to 435p per kg from Gainslawhill, Berwick upon Tweed. Limousin cows to 290p per kg from Bowsden Moor also Berwick upon Tweed.

Lamb trade steady with quality Continental Cross export lambs in demand. Top Prices: Hedgeley Farms, Powburn 405p per kg for Texel Crosses and Redpath Farms, Duns to 400p per kg for Suffolk Crosses. Organics to £86.10 from Tullochallum, Keith and also Suffolk Crosses.

Store and breeding cattle are in demand. Aberdeen Angus Bulling Heifers to £1,400. Yearling Simmental Cross heifers to £100.
