A NORTH Northumberland beach has been shortlisted as one of Britain’s best.
Bamburgh was chosen as one of the five nominees in the Best British Beach category of the Coast Awards 2012.
And Bamburgh is the sole representative for the north of England in its category facing off against Camber Sands in East Sussex, Gwithian in Cornwall, Holkham in North Norfolk and Woolacombe in North Devon.
The nominees for the awards, which are run by Coast magazine, are chosen by a panel of judges that features writers and representatives of coastal groups as well as Olympic sailor Ben Ainslie and TV presenter Ben Fogle.
The winners are then voted for by readers of Coast magazine and are due to be announced soon.
The information on the awards website describes Bamburgh as ‘an award-winning sandy beach in an AONB, crowned by a medieval castle – the former seat of the kings of Northumbria’.
