A beauty salon, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary, is recruiting extra staff and wants to offer work-experience places.

Naked Nun, in Amble, has proved a success since opening its doors last November, with clients coming from near and far to take advantage of its fully-accredited treatments.

Owner Kelly Gair admits the salon has grown and is looking to take on two new local beauty therapists.

She also wants to work with the Jobcentre to offer people the chance to gain experience in a salon environment.

“The salon has really grown over the past few months,” said Kelly.

“As well as our regular, loyal, local customers, we are seeing more and more seasonal holiday-makers or people with holiday homes asking for treatments.

“We have had people come in the shop from as far away as Cornwall and one lady last week is from the Isle of Skye, so not only is it good business for the salon, but Amble’s future is definitely looking positive.”

The salon’s two members of staff have recently sat a range of beauty qualifications ranging from nail treatments to the official HD Brow course.

And Kelly is keen to add to the salon’s ranks.

She said: “Due to the demand for appointments, and future plans for the salon, we are currently interviewing for two new fully-qualified beauticians, who will enable us to meet the demand for our high-end treatments.

“We are also working with the Jobcentre to try to offer work placements to suitable individuals who wish to gain real-life experience in a busy salon.”

The salon, based on Leazes Street, has recently been refurbished.

“I would invite old and new customers, female and male, to pop in, have a free cup of coffee and discuss what treatments they may be interested in,” added Kelly.
