A BRIDGE which has been partially out of action for around three-and-a-half years is to be repaired.
West Dunkirk bridge, on the B6344 just outside Rothbury, has been supported with concrete blocks because of damage.
But now an agreement has been met between Northumberland County Council, the National Trust and the Armstrong Estate.
Plans are now being drawn up to build embankments either side and to fill the arch underneath, which would make the road wider.
Construction is not due to start until mid-summer 2012, subject to funding.
County councillor for Rothbury, Steven Bridgett, said: “I am pleased that an agreement has been reached and hopefully in the coming financial year the county will be able to budget to widen it along with strengthening it.”
