FIRE crews are currently battling a blaze at a former Alnwick school.
Teams of firefighters from Alnwick, Amble, Rothbury and Seahouses were called to the empty St Paul’s First School building on Lisburn Terrace at around 2.50pm today.
Police are also at the scene and crowds of onlookers are surrounding the streets nearby.
Plumes of black smoke from the inferno can be seen across the town.
The school, formerly St John’s RC First School, has been empty since October last year and the Northumberland Estates has been given permission to build a housing estate on the land.
