A MOTHER has paid tribute to kind-hearted folks who have helped smash a £15,000 fund-raising target in honour of her brave son – in just five weeks.
In an overwhelming response, £16,700 has poured in on behalf of young Brandon Ballance, from Amble, who has battled a brain tumour for six years.
Inspired by his story of courage, the community – and beyond – has come together to raise the money on behalf of the eight-year-old lad to help him fulfil his wish of swimming with dolphins.
Such generosity has allowed the family to book a dream two-week holiday to Florida in August, staying at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge.
It has cost just over £11,000 – more than what the family expected – plus an additional £2,500 for Brandon’s insurance, while they have also received two free passes to swim with dolphins.
Sarah has also upgraded seats on the plane to give Brandon extra comfort.
But despite smashing the money target, the family is still fund-raising to help pay for extras such as character breakfasts and excursions to give Brandon the holiday of a lifetime.
His mum, Sarah Nicholson, said: “I just can’t believe we have come this far in five weeks. It is absolutely outstanding.
“Brandon and myself both want to thank everyone who has supported us. I just can’t believe the response.
“This is the first time I have seen my boy look forward to something.
“I am buzzing because Brandon is on a high. If he is happy, then I am happy.”
Last Saturday, an event at Radcliffe Working Men’s Club, in Amble, featuring Northumberland singer Georgia Overton, raised more than £900, while this Saturday, a sponsored waxing event takes place at the town’s Blue Bell pub from 7pm.
Sarah has also thanked an anonymous donor who last week deposited £2,000 at the Lloyds TSB branch in Alnwick into the charitable account set up in Brandon’s name.
The number on the account, set up with Lloyds TSB, is 15355568 and the sort code is 772004 for anyone wanting to donate.
