Bid to put county on the tourist map

TOURIST chiefs are on a publicity drive to put north Northumberland on the map, by launching a major advertising campaign with the help of local businesses.

Alnwick Tourism Association has printed colourful A5-size inserts for traders to add into mail order packages to encourage recipients to look at the Visit Alnwick website, which highlights the many attractions to be found in the area.

They are available for use by any business which sends goods or posts to retail customers.

Chairman Bruce Hewison said: “We’re aiming to increase visitor numbers for our members. An advertising feature in the Yorkshire Post has already seen an increase in numbers browsing the Visit Alnwick website.

“Yorkshire and the A1 corridor are a main source of visitors, so we also have a campaign starting with mobile adverts on a fleet of vans delivering across the North Midlands.

“Now we’d like to open up our campaigns and get local businesses involved in bringing tourists and their spending power into our area”
