A controversial application for a holiday complex on the coast at Amble has been withdrawn.

The scheme in question was for a three-storey building containing one private dwelling house and three duplex holiday lets on the site of the former Signal Cottage, in a prominent seafront position, across the road from Amble Links holiday park.

It was submitted in August, but the sensitive location was one of the reasons that some criticised the proposals, saying it was out of keeping with the area and out of scale compared to the recently-demolished cottage.

Last month, the application was removed from the council’s planning system to correct an error, but later reappeared, only to be withdrawn by the applicant last week.
