The Berwickshire Naturalists’ Club met at Ingram Village Hall in the Breamish Valley on July 21, where talks were given by Johnny Wilson, who has lived and farmed in this valley all his life, and Tony Gates, chief executive of Northumberland National Park.

Both speakers were excellent and provided a great insight into the working of Northumberland National Park and its communities. Members really appreciated both hearing about, and being, in this beautiful valley.

We then visited St Michael’s Church, its history dating back to Saxon times and here, Mrs Jane Levien kindly answered questions as we looked around.

The weather was perfect and after picnic lunches we travelled up to Linhope Spout and heard about the care involved of the surrounding area from Lord James Percy’s Gamekeeper John Queen, as we sat on the hillside enjoying the serenity of the hills.
