AN Alnmouth teenager has turned his hobby into a career.

Ben Davison, 17, began bouldering when the new wall opened at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre at the beginning of last year.

Now he has joined the Willowburn team and coaches two junior clubs.

Ben said: “Through learning to climb at Willowburn bouldering wall, I’ve gained the opportunity to climb in many places throughout the UK, such as the peak district, Yorkshire and Wales, and also in Europe.

“I’ve been on trips to France, to numerous areas that are popular for climbing, including Gorges du Tarn, and most recently to Ceuse – all purely to climb. It’s become a reason to go places, meet new people and travel, as well as being a physical sport.

“The great thing about climbing is that there is always something new or something harder, so there is always room for improvement. I thoroughly enjoy coaching, helping others to achieve their goals and seeing their progression.”

Bouldering clubs for juniors at Willowburn are on Wednesdays (junior taster session 6pm to 7.30pm) and Thursdays (beActive boulderers 5pm to 6.30pm). These clubs are aimed at young climbers wanting to develop their climbing skills in a safe environment.
