North Northumberland beaches are among the best in the UK for water quality.
All eight of the area’s beaches featured in the Marine Conservation Society’s Good Beach Guide are recommended as having excellent water quality for taking a dip.
Druridge Bay South, Druridge Bay North, Amble Links, Warkworth, Low Newton, Beadnell, Seahouses North and Bamburgh Castle have received the top ranking in the annual guide.
Druridge Bay North, Low Newton and Beadnell have all improved from last year.
The MCS says one of the UK’s driest summers in recent memory has led to more bathing beaches than ever reaching the highest standard.
Just 14 beaches tested last summer failed to reach minium water quality standards, with no failures in the North East.
Several previously wet summers led to a drop in bathing water quality from pollution running into the sea from rural and urban areas and overloaded sewers.
