Tibetan adventures

During the business meeting of Bamburgh WI we heard about various county events, which included cookery demonstrations, walks, flower arranging, crafts for Christmas, and a centenary celebration at Hexham Abbey.

The lunch club for September had been cancelled due to a very busy month and this will now be on October 15, at the Island View.

We are returning to our winter quiz nights. The first one will be on September 28, at 7.30pm, in the Castle Inn, where everyone is welcome.

A defib refresher course will be on October 1, at 6pm, in the Pavilion, and we look forward to seeing as many people as possible.

Arrangements were made for our Georgian afternoon tea to celebrate the centenary of the Women’s Institute.

During ‘any other business’ we heard about the Grace Darling Museum holding a dementia friends afternoon on November 16, and the proposed closure of the public toilets in the village.

We then had a delightful talk by Diana Buckham about her holiday to Tibet during September/October last year. She showed a multitude of photographs, which enhanced her talk. They included the hotels she stayed in, the monasteries she visited, the people she met and beautiful photographs showing the summit of Mount Everest.

The next meeting will be on October 14, when the speaker will be Anne Ousby on Writing for Pleasure.
