CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS: Bamburgh WI’s Christmas festivities started on December 1, when members and friends got together at Cragside to enjoy a wonderful Christmas lunch.

The mulled wine, table decorations and crackers certainly put us in a festive mood and the National Trust gift shop saw members purchasing early Christmas presents and cards as they left to catch their coach home.

Our Christmas party at the Pavilion once again had members ‘tucking in’ to the excellent fare provided by members and the entertainment, by the committee, had everyone in fits of laughter.

A singing reindeer greeted all the guests as they entered the Pavilion with pithy remarks. Not to be outdone ,the Father Christmas-clad reindeer in the main hall sang and danced to entertain all present when there was a lapse in the conversation.

Once again this annual event was a rumbustious, happy, gathering of members.

A little more decorous, the following day saw members making their way to Hexham Abbey for the federation carol concert. This is always a spectacular event held in a splendid setting.

Peggy Wood had arranged the timing of the coach journey so perfectly that we had time to meander through Hexham’s shops before having an excellent lunch in Mrs Miggins’ tea-room.

The singing by the choir and the soprano in the abbey left us spell bound and we returned home with excellent memories of the day.

Our first meeting in 2012 is on January 11, when Janet Wilkinson, a Bamburgh WI member, gives us an insight into her life in the Falklands.

Members are invited to a light lunch in the Pavilion at 12.30pm when WIA Julia Davidson will answer any questions relating to the 2012 resolutions and members will vote on their resolution choice. Visitors are very welcome to join us at 2pm for the main meeting.

Please could institutes note that the wrong phone code has been printed in the Northumberland news letter regarding the Festival of Alnwick in Celebration of London 2012 sand sculptures. It should be 01668.
