Two RAF Association members of staff at Rothbury House have won Carer of the Year 2013 awards.

Co-operative Funeralcare launched its inaugural Carer of the Year in the Rothbury area to celebrate the contribution of those who care for others in the community.

Rothbury House is a respite care home run jointly by the RAF Association and the RAF Benevolent Fund, offering short respite and care breaks.

Care team leader Joy Nardo won Carer of the Year 2013 and her colleague, care team leader Irene Paxton, was runner-up.

Joy joined Rothbury House in 1996 when it was first opened.

Comments in her nomination included her ‘absolute and unwavering dedication to the highest possible standards of quality and service to the guests who stay at Rothbury House’.

It was also noted that Joy is a very popular member of staff with guests, relatives and her colleagues.

Irene has been at Rothbury House since 1999 and also had an impressive nomination form.

Comments included that she ‘can be relied upon to deliver the highest standards of care’ to the guests.

She was also described as being calm, relaxed and able to instil confidence in other members of staff and guests.

Ernie Richardson, manager of Rothbury House, said: “I am delighted that two of our amazing staff have won these awards.”
