AWARD: Humbled by such company

On behalf of fellow-members of the Alnwick and District RNLI Ladies’ Lifeboat Luncheon Club, I would like to express our thanks to the Mayor of Alnwick for making a Civic Award to our club.

We hope that this recognition will spur us on to increased effort in fund-raising.

The presentation evening was a splendid and well-organised affair, with a warm welcome shown to all recipients. I, on behalf of fellow members of our club, felt quite humbled to be in the company of so many deserving individuals and groups who work tirelessly for others in the community.

Our club is required to raise at least £1,000 a year to qualify as a recognised RNLI fund-raising organisation. We achieve this largely from annual subscriptions, occasional fund-raising activities and from a portion of the charge for a monthly sociable lunch at the White Swan, which is followed by a talk. The hotel generously waives the hiring fee for the room.

We would welcome new members so if you think you might enjoy a lunch at the White Swan on the first Wednesday of each month, we will be starting again after the summer break in September, do give us a try.

Bring a friend. You will be welcome as a guest without commitment to join for two occasions while you decide whether you wish to commit.

You can contact me on 01665 602478 or our chairman Barbara Reid on 01665 604378.

Nellie Shrimpton,

Secretary, Alnwick and District RNLI Ladies’ Lifeboat Luncheon Club
