POTHOLES marring Northumberland’s highways and byways will be targeted with £3.1million worth of funding released by the Government this week.
The cash-injection was made by Secretary of State for Transport Philip Hammond, in the wake of serious damaged caused to roads across the county during the harsh winter.
The council has been asked to publish how it has spent the money by September 30.
Sir Alan Beith said: “I very much welcome the £3million awarded by the Government to help repair pothole damage. It will be a great help in tackling the state of the roads following another hard winter.”
Alnwick ward councillor Gordon Castle said: “This will make a noticeable difference and is to be welcomed.
“At last, money is being directly targeted without strings and no hoops to jump through.”
