A Wooler firm has taken on new apprentices, as part of a growing relationship with Ashington’s Northumberland College.

Glendale Engineering has offered the roles to Jamie Pentleton, from Alnwick, Andrew Carr, from Wooler, and Daniel Rickard, from Cornhill.

The trio are doing a two-year welding/fabricators apprenticeship.

Meanwhile, Scott Turnbull, from Coldstream, has started an 18- month business admin apprenticeship.

The company employs 48 staff, with many from the local area, and financial director Paul McKenna is a big fan of going down the apprentice route. He said: “We are giving these lads a well-rounded experience so that they are experienced in all of the operations.”

The Berwick Road-based company supports a number of good causes, including sponsoring Wooler U14s football club and Wooler Golf Club.
