Appeal for helpers

Volunteers are needed at the Alnwick office of the Northumbrian Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB) to deal with an increase in demand.

The Bureau was recently formed from the merger of the Alnwick, Berwick and West Northumberland CABs.

The recent introduction of a new county-wide telephone line, Northumberland Adviceline, has led to an increase in people contacting the Citizens’ Advice.

The new telephone number, 08444 111444, is available Monday to Friday, between 10am and 4pm, and the charity is looking for helpers to answer the phone and carry out brief assessment interviews.

Training, support and supervision is provided.

Chief executive Moira Macfarlane said: “Being a telephone assessor is one of the most challenging volunteer roles we have. Telephone assessors volunteer for at least one day per week.”
