Appeal after man dies on A697

Police are appealing for information after a man died on a Northumberland road.

At 11.30pm yesterday (Friday, November 7), police received a report of concern for a man on the roadside on the A697 South Road in Wooler, near to the junction with the B6348.

Police and paramedics attended and located the the man, he was prounced dead at the scene.

It’s thought the man, aged in his 60s, may have been struck by a HGV and that the driver may have not been aware. It’s also possible the vehicle was travelling south.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and appealing for anyone who was travelling on the A697 last night between 11pm and 11.30pm, in particular any HGV drivers, to contact them.
