Cheques were handed over to 18 different organisations at the annual presentation by Forestburngate Hay Show and Simonside Country Fair at The Gate pub.

Having given away more than £100,000 over the years, another £6,000 was doled out this year in a ceremony hosted by Robert Famelton.

The following groups and organisations were the beneficiaries:

The Gate pub, £500;

Rothbury Boy Scouts, to send 12 youngsters to Switzerland, £300;

Cambo Young Farmers, £300;

St Oswald’s Hospice, £300;

Rothbury Highland Pipe Band, £300;

Over the Bridge churches magazine, £200;

Coquet Singers, £200;

Morpeth Hunt, £250;

Rothbury First School, £600;

Fontburn Residents Group, £400;

Rothbury Christmas Lights, £250;

Pottergate Centre, Alnwick, £500;

Spaniel Rescue, £200;

Nunnykirk School, £500;

Northumbrian Hedgehog Rescue Trust, £200;

Grovewood House, £250;

Coquetdale Community Transport, £250;

Rothbury Wrestling Academy, £500.

The latter was most grateful for its donation as it enables the club to travel overseas for events and tournaments.

For example, in March this year, Jason Davidson organised a trip to Brest, in France, to take part in the European Championships, which involved 10 countries.

The UK team came very close to winning the event, and would have done if there had been a full complement of wrestlers.

The team flew to Brittany from the Midlands, making the journey much easier, but, of course, this costs money.
