RAF Flight Sergeant Andy Downing is keeping his feet firmly on the ground for a charity challenge.

The 47-year-old, from Alnwick, is running the Kielder Marathon on Sunday, October 9, for Carers Northumberland.

Andy, who has already raised £600 for the charity in a previous desert marathon, said: “There are an estimated 34,000 carers living in Northumberland and I know that carers registered with Carers Northumberland will benefit directly from the funds that I raise.”

Carers Northumberland is dedicated to improving the lives of carers by informing them of their rights and entitlements, supporting them to access support for the person they care for, reducing the social isolation that so many carers feel and empowering carers to have a voice.

Carolyn Reynolds, PR and fund-raising officer, said: “One in six people will be a carer within their lifetime and Carers Northumberland aim to improve the lives of carers in Northumberland.

Anyone interested in backing Andy in his second marathon attempt this year and donating to Carers Northumberland can do so by texting CARE16 (followed by the amount in pounds) to 70070.
