Delays remain in parking scheme

The plans to bring in parking and delivery bays in the Market Place are still facing delays. Coun Gordon Castle told the meeting that it was due to the county council’s legal department drawing up the traffic order. He said that he was unhappy with the time it was taking and that he had told the relevant officer that ‘it’s affecting the credibility of the council’.

FORTHCOMING DATES FOR THE DIARY

The Remembrance Sunday service will take place on Sunday, November 10, at 2.30pm in St Paul’s Church, followed by a march to the War Memorial. The Mayor’s Carol Service takes place on Wednesday, December 18, in St Michael’s Church.

TEAMING UP WITH CURRY MALLET

Curry Mallet Parish Council in Somerset got in touch with the council to suggest teaming up for the 2015 Magna Carta celebrations, which marks the document’s 800th anniversary.

Curry Mallet is the most south-western village involved while Alnwick is the most north-eastern.

Members agreed to the partnership.

CHINESE TWINNING REJECTED BY COUNCIL

The council received a request from Zhenyuan in China for a sister-city relationship. The letter explained that the city had a population of around 500,000, hosted such industries as oil and medical technology and that it was felt that Alnwick ‘was a good fit’. Members decided to decline the request as Alnwick already has three twin towns – Lagny, Time and Voerde.

SUCCESSFUL BID FOR TOWN PLAN FUNDING

The council has received £6,390 to continue developing the neigbourhood plan, following a successful bid to the Department of Communities and Local Government.
