Beautiful blooms were the order of the day at Alnwick Spring Show on Saturday.

The annual event that brings food and flowers in many art forms has been growing in popularity but still managed to surprise event co-ordinator David Parker.

“For it only being on one day this year, I was surprised at how many showed up. Just as many as last year turned up to see the exhibits,” he said.

”The standards were amazing, especially in the floral categories, and we had over 100 exhibitors.

“ People were saying it’s the best show they’ve ever been to.”

A big surprise for David was the standard of some first-time exhibitors.

He said: “What was amazing was that one of the tulip champions was here for the first time.

“There was a big improvement in the general spring flowers, it’s probably the first time I’ve seen those benches packed.

“The daffodils from around the North East were fascinating and we also had tulips from Wakefield, which were fantastic.”

With the show being condensed into just the one day this year, instead of being stretched over two, David believes it was for the best.

He said: “It certainly worked out better, people could stay in Alnwick for the day and get their stuff sorted instead of leaving cookery and flowers overnight.

“Also, it was some people’s first time in Alnwick and they really enjoyed themselves.”
