A group of Year 4 children from St Michael’s CE Primary School in Alnwick took to the rails last week to head down to Durham and the Song for Europe competition.
This event is open to schools across the North East, for choirs of up to 12 Year 4 pupils to perform a song in another language.
The youngsters from St Michael’s had been learning a song in Spanish – El arca de Noe – telling the story of Noah’s ark and why the unicorn did not make it. The children gave up their time to learn the Spanish lyrics along with developing the choreography.
St Michael’s, as the only school from Northumberland, performed on the day alongside 32 other schools from the region.
Headteacher Gavin Johnston said: “It was a really exciting opportunity and a really fulfilling experience.”
The event took place at Durham’s Gala Theatre.
