Alnwick Embroiderers’ Guild

Pat Ashton-Smith will be presenting an illustrated talk Love Letters from the Front at Alnwick Embroiderers’ Guild on Saturday.

She will show several examples of embroidered postcards typical of those sent by members of the Armed Forces to their loved ones at home. Visitors will be very welcome (admission £4) at St Michael’s Church Hall at 2pm.

The October meeting was a talk on Tudor Costume – Bringing History to Life by Julia Soares-McCormick. She brought several full-size costumes including those similar to ones worn by Anne Boleyn, Queen Elizabeth I and that worn by Mary, Queen of Scots on her way to the scaffold. In addition her husband was also present dressed as King Henry VIII. Members were interested to hear how the costumes were constructed and the historical sources she used in her research and enjoyed looking at the costumes in detail.
