Alnwick and Amble have once again missed out on cash from the Portas Pilot initiative.
Both towns were unsuccessful in second-round bids for funding, however Berwick was selected.
But those not chosen can sign a national pledge to become a Town Team Partner, which will give them access to a nationwide package of support worth £5.5million – which has been welcomed by representatives of both Alnwick and Amble bids.
Alnwick’s application was led by the town council. Coun Gordon Castle said it was ‘a disappointment’ to miss out again but said there was nothing wrong with the bid, which was submitted ‘more in hope than expectation’.
Amble Development Trust led on the town’s application. Director Julia Aston said: “We’re disappointed but there are still some elements of the bid that I think the business club is looking to take forward.”
